What's My Problem?

My Philosophy

First and foremost, you have the right to get respectful treatment that will be helpful to you. My goal is to work
collaboratively with you so that you are an active participant in your own treatment and treatment decisions
. By
combining your knowledge of yourself and your concerns with my expertise in psychology, we can come up with a
course of treatment that works for you. You may simply wish to have an evaluation to find out more about what is
going on. Or, you may wish to have the long term support in a confidential setting that psychotherapy provides. Here
are some of the common problems I work with and what I can do to  help.
Anxiety
You may be experiencing a lot of stress about your job or family problems.  You may worry constantly and find it
difficult to control the worrying. You may be experiencing times when your anxiety is so intense, you feel the need to
leave a public place, think that you are having a heart attack, or cry uncontrollably.  You may have an uncontrollable fear
you would like to recover from, such as a fear of flying. Many treatments have been proven effective to help with stress,
anxiety and worry. Feeling anxiety may make you wonder if you are going crazy, but anxiety is treatable.
Trauma
Many individuals find it difficult to cope with the after effects of a traumatic event such as a
car accident, rape, or life-threatening illness. Some people, such as those who experience sexual
abuse or physical abuse, may have repeated traumatic experiences. Experiencing trauma can
create a strong physical reaction in the body. It is common to react to such events with lasting
fears, anxiety, shame, withdrawal from others, distrust of others, and depression. Some people
have disturbing memories, nightmares, sleep problems, or edginess. Psychotherapy
does help.
EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy help with the physical, emotional, and mental
responses to trauma.

Grief
Emotions including sadness, anger, and fear are  normal responses to loss.  After someone important, it can be helpful to
talk to someone outside your circle of family and friends.
Support can help you survive the difficult moments and make
sense of loss.  For those who are especially haunted by grief, therapy can help to move you through places that feel stuck.
Psychological Testing
I am currently able to provide testing services including MMPI-2, cognitive screening, and supervision of trainees.
